What
is a Foto Facial?
A FotoFacial is a non-laser medical
device that can treat a variety of
skin conditions such as redness, rosacea,
broken capillaries, signs of photo-aging
and sun damage and freckles. Commonly
treated areas include the face, neck,
chest, back, arms and hands.
What is involved in a Foto Facial
Treatment?
An IPL is a non-laser medical
device that delivers a series of gentle
pulses of visible light onto the surface
of the skin. The light is changed
to heat energy as it reaches the level
of the collagen beneath the skin surface.
The energy is absorbed by the unwanted
pigment and blood vessels causing
shattering of the pigment and shrinking
of the vessels. With this revolutionary
new technology the damaged skin is
treated without disrupting the surface
of the skin.
How
many treatments are needed?
A
minimum of three treatments are recommended
and treatments are spaced three weeks
apart. Depending on the how chronic
your complaints are, you may need
additional treatments.
What
should I expect during and after an
IPL treatment?
Sun exposure and the use of tanning
products should be avoided during
your treatment regimen. There are
also certain medications, such as
Retin A, that have to be discontinued
for a period before and during your
IPL series of treatment. During the
actual procedure, the area to be treated
will be chilled with our Dermal Chiller
to reduce trauma to the outer dermis
of your skin. There will be an intense
pulse of light (you will be wearing
protective goggles), you will feel
a sensation of heat with a discomfort
that is similar to the snap of a rubber
band. The discomfort is minimal and
is only felt during the pulse. You
will be provided with a moisturizer
and sunscreen to be applied daily
during your treatment regimen. This
is an essential part of your treatment
in order to obtain the best result
possible.
You may have redness similar to a
sunburn, lasting for a few hours to
as long as 48 hours. After treatment,
any pigmented areas you have will
actually become darker, additional
pigmented (sun damaged) areas that
were not visible to the eye may now
appear dark, then continue to break
up and then peel away and lighten
if not disappear over the next week.
The application of make up should
be avoided for 24 hours after treatment.
There is no downtime so you can go
back to work or resume your normal
activities. Because the full rejuvenation
program is divided into a series of
treatments you will see gradual improvement
over time with the advantage of no
down time!
Are
You a Candidate for Intense Pulsed
Light?
If you are prone to keloids, hyper
or hypo pigmentation, are dark-skinned,
darkly tanned or do not react well
to burns you may not be a candidate
for our IPL. Also, if you have ethnicity
(like Mediterranean or African American)
in your biological family, you may
be prone to hyper or hypo pigmentation
resulting from the procedure. An "ideal"
patient would be of white European
descent with elastic, non-oily skin.
Although many other types of skin
are treated successfully. If you are
a insulin-dependent diabetic, you
can not be treated. Insulin-dependent
diabetics run the risk of wound-healing
and infection problems.
