Lip Augmentation

We're excited to be able to offer our patients several options for lip augmentation (enhancement).

Injectable Fillers - There's been much excitement surrounding the two recently FDA approved hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, Restylane® and Hylaform®. These hyaluronic fillers work beautifully in the nasal labia folds and the frown (between your eyes) and other prominent lines on your face. Perlane® is another hyaluronic filler awaiting FDA approval and this product is the more optimal product for lip enhancement. We can offer our patients a combination of two fillers to get a great result. First, we inject your lip line (Vermilion Border) with collagen (either bovine based or non-bovine based). Collagen is great for this first step because it's very predictable, very controllable for injecting and creates a great enhanced lip line for you. We then fill the lips for fullness with one of the hyaluronic fillers. Because of their properties, the hyaluronic fillers draw in water from the injection site to further optimize their fullness. We can also inject your lips just using Restylane® or Hylaform®. Results last upwards of six months.

Fat Transfers - We are able to enhance your lips using your own fat as the injectable filler. We harvest the fat from a site on your own body, such as your abdomen, buttocks, flanks or thighs. We then centrifuge the harvest to obtain the best fat result sample to inject into your lip or other prominent fold or wrinkle on your face. Given that this is harvest is taken from your own body, there is no allergic reaction. The body often regenerates the fat and supplies the injection site with blood vessels to keep the fat alive; therefore in some instances, creating a permanent result and minimizing the reabsorption of the fat by your body. This procedure won't work on someone who's very thin with little or no body fat; there's not enough fat to harvest for the implant. Results last upwards of one year and may, in some cases, have a permanent residual, especially after two or three injections. We can also do the same procedure to the back of the hands to eliminate the bony, sinewy look hands can have as they age. Use of a hydroquinone (bleaching) cream will eliminate any age spots.

Alloderm® - We are able to offer you a surgical implant as a means to permanently enhance your lips. Alloderm® is an implant made of a unique biomaterial that is processed from donated human tissue. The implant is flexible so we're able to mold it and surgically implant it into lips to enhance them permanently. AlloDerm® has a lengthening history of successful use in tissue replacement. In fact, it's been used since 1993 for a wide range of procedures. The results are permanent.
